What is a leaking under my San Antonio Home?

Slab leaks are a real problem in the San Antonio Area. The city of San Antonio has been plagued with under slab plumbing problems for a long time. There are two different plumbing items that can leak under your slab. All the leaks that come from under your slab come from ether your drinking water pipes or your sewer pipes. These leaks can be caused by a couple of different things.

Why do I have a Slab Leak?

Slab leaks can be caused by several different things. Slab leaks on your fresh water piping can be caused by poor installation, your slab shifting, or electrolysis. Some times you can have all three things happening at the same time. Water lines that were kinked when they were installed tend to develop pin hole leaks right after the kink in the pipe. Slab movement can also cause leaks on you water system. If the slab moves a lot it can actually shear off the water lines causing a slab leak. Electrolysis can also cause slab leaks. If two dissimilar metals are touching, the weaker metal will break down. Copper is usually  the weaker metal. This tends to happen when water lines are not sleeved in the concrete when they are installed. Sewer slab leaks can also be caused by poor installation and your home shifting. In addition to those reason sewer pipe can also just rot away. Most slab leaks in San Antonio are caused by moving foundations. When a foundation shifts the plumbing usually doesn’t move with it, causing your pipes to break and then you have a slab leak. Some of the older homes in San Antonio also have slab leaks from their sewer pipe because the cast iron pipe has actually rotted away. This can cause a void to be where the pipe used to be. This usually results in a Clogged Sewer Line.
